ABOUT MARCUS HARCUS
  • Born in May of 1978 (Taurus) in St. Paul, MN
  • Raised in North Minneapolis – moved here as a toddler
    • Kindergartener at Northstar Community School
    • Graduate from Patrick Henry high school (I.B.)
  • Son of Rita and Andrew Harcus
  • All American: I identify myself as African American, but I’m a Creole biologically
    • African American, European American and Native American
  • Oldest of 5 boys / brothers
  • Former sports fanatic (baseball, basketball, football and tennis) and athlete
  • Arts enthusiast / wanna be artist
  • Nature lover

  • 2 time officially registered candidate (2001 and 2005) for Mayor of Minneapolis (informal campaigns)
CORE CHARACTERISTICS (C’S)
  • Conscious – I’m conscious of the humanity behind statistics; conscious and inquisitive of the multiple and often intersecting dynamics within social, economic and environmental issues; conscious of the importance of valuing and prioritizing people over profits.
  • Conscientious – I’ll investigate and consider the community impact or consequences to individuals, families, and neighborhoods of proposed public policy and development plans; basic human needs and social responsibility are the most important factors that will influence my informed judgments on issues and the decisions I make on proposed public policy, community economic development, etc.
  • Compassionate – I believe in humanitarianism, generously serving and protecting vulnerable, at-risk and struggling human beings, globally and especially local people; I believe in charity and championing opportunity for stability and advancement for everyone; I believe everyone deserves justice, healing, and redemption.
  • Creative – I believe in science, but favor art!  While I believe in studying, learning from and honoring history and traditions, and practicing tried and true methods, I am also passionate about changing with the times, adapting to unique circumstances, experimenting / taking risks to innovate, being colorful, boldly visionary and lively!  I believe art of all sorts should be integrated into most areas and aspects of our society.
