TESTIMONIES / ENDORSEMENT MESSAGES
As the candidate and author of the campaign messages found throughout this website and in the campaign literature that will be widely distributed on the Northside, I am naturally biased. Although I am devoted to the philosophies and practices of regulating my ego and carrying myself at all times with dignified humility, I will be charismatically promoting myself for the next year as the best candidate in a competitive race against the current City Council president, or one of her daughters. For example, I’m running as a CHANGE candidate who is younger, faster and more in touch with the local masses and modern socio-economic and cultural realities.
Don’t depend on my word alone! I invite testimonies from people who know me, personally (privately) and professionally (publicly). Sure, these people may be biased in my favor, but they can honestly tell you about their experiences with and observations of me from their perspectives. These testimonies or endorsement messages will highlight reasons to be confident in and excited about the new leadership I’m offering to bring to City Hall here in my hometown. Encouraging, inspiring and fostering widespread grassroots community leadership is one of my ultimate goals as a member of the City Council.

I have had the pleasure of working with Marcus Harcus since 2001 in our common quest to improve the well being of all people in all communities and promote greater peace and opportunity in our communities. Marcus truly believes that all voices count, and he will be tireless in his commitment to make sure you are heard as well as everyone else. As an organizer by heart, he wont stop at listening to you. He will invite you to partner with him in engaging and listening to others. By his values he believes that it takes all of us working in cooperation to transcend the current structural patterns that make our communities unsafe, our kids fail in school, our elders grow old without economic security or social support, and too many of our adults hurt badly by the recession without a way out.By electing him to City Council we create a better chance for ourselves, our elders, and coming generations. Lets work hard to get this pragmatic visionary IN!

Greetings, I first met Marcus some years ago during his run for Mayor of Minneapolis. At the time I thought he was rather brash, cheeky and a bit naive; however, I reasoned, that he was young and, given time, he was quite intelligent and capable enough of entering into the realm of Minneapolis politics and making a dent for the good. Well, the time has come. Some years later, Marcus has matured and has successfully educated himself.
I am not someone who is unversed in the subject matter of Minneapolis politics nor am I a stranger to candidates, having known many quite well. I have lived in Minnesota the bulk of my life and traveled widely, returning to Minneapolis some ten years ago. In the time since my return I have served on many Boards, Commissions and Task Forces, including; the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless, Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans, CrimNet, the 4th Judicial Downtown Task Force on Homelessness and Mental Illness, and as a National Adviser on veterans issues for many organizations. I also served as the lobbyist and advocacy coordinator for the Council on Crime and Justice during the Racial Disparities Initiative and for the Veterans Initiatives Center and Research Institute. In these varying capacities I have had the opportunity to work on criminal justice, homelessness and housing issues, racial disparities, social services delivery, education and veterans issues at the highest circles of government in Minnesota and here in the City of Minneapolis.
Marcus is a very bright young man and just a plain nice guy with a wonderful family... he also, I believe, possesses the courage and the wherewithal to take on the tougher issues. If you want something different, vote for Marcus. If you are okay with the foreclosure crisis, the persistent disparities, our atrocious record on public safety matters... hey, vote for the powers-that-be and, rest assured, you will get more of the same... if you really want something different take a well-tempered and well-advised chance and vote for a guy who will stand with and not against the majority of voters in this City. We need it now more than ever.

Where do I begin? Marcus Harcus has been one of the most influential people
in my life both politically and personally. He lives his words and his words are powerful. Harcus and I first collaborated when I, as a young college student, wanted to create performance art that addressed issues of peace, anti-militarism, racism and consumerism. He among other brilliant artists and activists came together to create and perform pieces that would engage as well as educate our community. It has been my honor to be a friend and supporter of his for the last decade and being mutually supported. He is hard-working and sincere in all of his endeavors. Most importantly he is a truth-seeker, he stands by what he believes and yet is open to new ideas and the opinions of others. In addition to all of these things, he has an
infectious laugh and smile that puts all around him at ease. I fully,
whole-heartedly endorse Marcus Harcus for City Council!

I am reminded of Studs Terkel, Saul Alinsky, and Barack Obama when I sit down to write an endorsement of Marcus Harcus. He is remarkably able to connect with people across all walks of life, a rare talent in this day and age. He's also an independent thinker and writer. North Minneapolis will be blessed to have such sterling talent in our city government.

I met Mr. Harcus years ago through a few mutual friends. Since our first impressions he has never lost the earnestness that I remember shining through him, even in his youth. I have always known Mr. Harcus to be modest, honest, kind, intelligent, but more so, I know Marcus Harcus as a steward and outspoken advocate for the truth and well being of the INDIVIDUALS that make up his community
